Confusion Continues In Puerto Vallarta
The latest press release issued by Jalisco Say Governor’s office confirmed that there have been no cases of Swine Flu in Puerto Vallarta yet. Still however, the state is taking measures to refrain this outbreak. Puerto Vallarta is taking steps to save the residential areas, towns and cities around the state and other tourist spots.
The city has started with the basic steps by closing down all night clubs and bars especially in the Old Town until Might 4-6. Some bars located north of Centro are open and all those having license are granted to remain open. A number of events and shows have been delayed or cancelled. Motion picture theatres have been shut down until further notice, Taco stalls and stands have also been shut to refrain crowded places. Restaurants are granted to remain open, but they have to close down by midnight and are not granted to serve more than 2 alcoholic drinks to customers. The Might Day Parade which was supposed to be held on 1st Might has been cancelled and the Political campaigns for the general election on July 6 have also been postponed. The much awaited match for the Beach Soccer Qualifier has also been canceled. The Blueshire Trip Rave scheduled for Might 2nd has been postponed. All other activities and festivals including those for the Cultural Department of Puerto Vallarta planned for Might have been cancelled or postponed. The traditional Vallarta Might Fiesta will now start on Might 9. The Say is making a special effort to control visual screening of passengers at air ports and buses too are being cleaned with disinfectants and bleaches. Drivers are provided with masks. Visits to prisons in Jalisco have also been suspended till Might 6. All these rules and regulations have been issued for your safety, so try to follow up and check up on schedules if you were planning to attend any event.
There are doubts that the deaths caused by flu have not been caused by swine flu, instead by the regular flu which kills 36,000 people each year in the US alone. People are in a state of panic and researchers too are worried because this unknown strain has no cure or vaccine as yet. However, confusion continues as according to some reports there have been no deaths caused by swine flu.
Two Albertans have returned to Canada with a mild form of swine flu. This news has been confirmed by the officials however, they have not given out details of the age of the patients or which places they visited in Mexico. Canada fears many more cases now but so far only a few have been reported and no deaths as yet. A travel advisory has been issued for Mexico, hence Air Canada and Air Canada Vacations have suspended operations to Cancun, Puerto Vallarta and Cozumel till June 1. The airlines state that flights to Mexico will continue. WestJet and WestJet Vacations too have suspended operation in Cancun, Cabo San Lucas, Mazatlan and Puerto Vallarta till Might 4 at least. This decision is definitely going to affect the passengers, however not the tourism industry of Mexico. As summer approaches, the high season for tourism also comes to an end. The number of tourists going to Mexico for a vacation decreases in number till Mid May, thus the tourism industry will not suffer much loss.

One of the factors you need to be aware of is the “change of circumstances. When you travel, especially on long trips, there are many new and unfamiliar circumstances.
The purpose of going on pass from the regular routine, and while adults enjoy the change, for the children it is quite different. Not the things children do not regularly lead to confusion, uncertainty and insecurity. In fact, this is often the opposite of what they learn to experience are used to, because their parents during their first years, the importance of maintaining a routine.
To be done to a certain age, children do not comprehend why they are at home and why they are traveling. They do not interpret the word “vacation,” “Vacation,” “entertainment” in the same way so adults. So, remember that your children of the changes that they grappling can be disturbed. You have not sleep the beds, they do not eat, sit at their place at home. If you notice, even at home he will be in the same dining chair for each meal. This gives them a feeling familiar and comfortable. So, if you raise your children in a absolutely new environment that they find it difficult to undertake.
Food
Another potential problem is that children do not take their regular meals, especially when traveling abroad. This can be a child who is usually mean a good consumer stormy and refuses to take at all.
To defuse the situation, try to time their food as much as doable and look for foods that they usually like to keep to.
You can also begin introducing them to new foods at home that they can experience during their trip. It is a good intent to inform them of the astonishing new things, they will try to upset.
My friend Katie did exactly that before 4 years of age to Greece. Approximately 3 months before her flight she had a “Greek Night”, even if it had olives in the week, souvlaki (which is basically just delicious meat on a stick), Greek salad, tzatziki joys (yogurt-cucumber dip) and other. At the time her daughter came to Rhodes, she felt chesty that she knew the obloquy of serving Greek dishes, and she was confident of what they ate.
If you are in a position to have a food back up plan by packing some of their favorites. This might not always be doable if your trip overseas, where strict quarantine regulations.
Jetlag
Due to jet lag, or a situation in which the child does not have the comfort of their own bed, it is likely that they can not get enough sleep. If the children are deprived of sleep, you know, it is usually trouble. You get irritated with tiny provocation, and they are less healthy and willing to adapt to new environments.
Consider planning your journey times and bring it into line with naps and nighttime sleep, so that the whole family “internal clock” does not suffer.
Boredom
It is an important area that many parents do not address and that, as one with a lot of boredom! Each parent dreads the question: “Are We There Yet?” As is usually the beginning of the end of the moderate behavior of signals.
You need to comprehend that children do not always feel like the things you do. For example, you can enjoy the beauty of a long scenic drive, but get your child still appreciate nature.
If your child is bored, they do not know what they want. It is suggested to prevent your child from reaching that stage. If your child loses the desire is to stop it, to enjoy the things that they normally like to do.

Going on a pass or travelling long distances with the family is one of the most exciting ways to enhance the family bond. However, travelling can get a tiny tricky when there are children or infants in the family.
Often people refrain long trips or vacations when they have children because they think it is going to be too much trouble. Though the parents’ fears might be legitimate, the travelling experience can be made interesting, simple and enjoyable if you know more about the factors that affect children while travelling.
Being prepared and expecting potential problems in advance will mean that travelling with children is not that difficult.
Change of Conditions
One of the factors you need to be aware of is ‘change of conditions’. When travelling, especially on long trips, there are lots of new and unfamiliar circumstances.
The purpose of going on holidays is to get out of the regular routine and whilst adults enjoy the change, for children, it is different altogether. Not doing things children do regularly can result in confusion, uncertainty and insecurity. In fact, this is often the opposite to what they are used to experiencing, because during their formative years parents are taught the importance of maintaining a routine.
Up to a certain age, children don’t comprehend why they are not at home and why they are travelling. They don’t interpret the words; ‘vacation’, ‘holiday’, ‘entertainment’ etc. the same way adults do. So remember that your children can be troubled by the changes that they have to face. They don’t have their beds to sleep in, they don’t take sitting at their regular place at home. If you notice, even at home they will stick to the same dining chair for each meal. This makes them feel familiar and comfortable. So when you throw your children into a completely new environment they can find it hard to cope.
Food
Another potential problem is that children don’t get to take their regular food, especially when traveling abroad. This can mean a child who is normally a good consumer becomes fussy or refuses to take altogether.
To alleviate the situation try to keep to their food timings as much as doable and also seek out food they normally prefer.
You can also begin introducing them to new foods at home, which they might experience during their travels. It’s a good intent to get them excited about the fantastic new things they’re going to try.
My friend Katie did exactly that before taking her 4 year old to Greece. Approximately 3 months before their flight she had a ‘Greek Night’ once a week where they would have olives, souvlaki (which is basically just delicious meat on a stick), Greek salads, tzatziki (yogurt and cucumber dip) and other delights. By the time her daughter arrived in Rhodes she felt chesty that she knew the obloquy of the Greek dishes she was being served and confident in what she was eating.
If you’re able, have a food back up plan by packing some of their favorites. This might not always be doable if your trip is overseas where strict quarantine regulations apply.
Jetlag
Due to jetlag, or any situation where the child does not have the comfort of their own bed, it is likely they will not get enough sleep. When children are sleep deprived, you know there is usually trouble. They get irritated even with minor encouragement and they become less able, and willing, to adjust to new environments.
Consider your travelling times and plan to align them with naps and night-time sleep so the entire family’s body clock does not suffer.
Boredom
There is one major area that many parents change to address and that is how to deal with boredom! Each parent dreads the question, “Are we there yet?”, as it usually signals the beginning of the end of temperate behavior.
You need to comprehend that children don’t always fancy the things you do. For example, you might enjoy the beauty of a long scenic drive, but your child is yet to learn how to appreciate nature.
When your child has become bored, they don’t know what they want. It’s ideal to prevent your child from reaching that stage. Once your child gets bored, they will stop enjoying even those things they normally like doing.
Children can also feel guilty about frustrating everyone and for being stubborn, so don’t make it worse by telling them how bad they are and how much trouble they are causing the family with their tantrums.
The basis of all the problems and boredom is unfamiliarity. For adults boredom results when there is no change in the things that they do regularly. We get bored doing the same things over and over, but children get bored when they aren’t engaged in activities they’re used to.
To help them cope with the situation, reduce as many changes as possible. Carry their beloved blanket, their favorite toys and you might want to think about buying travel games you play before the trip to determine if they are a ‘hit’ or ‘miss’ with your child. Then you only take the games that are most engaging which saves on space and the frustration.
Moreover keep them involved, assign them responsibilities, and make them feel part of everything that is happening.
Be Prepared for Medical Issues
Carry the required medication and consult your family doctor prior to packing medicines. Both children and adults are more vulnerable to colds and flu while travelling due to change of climate, temperature, air-conditioning etc.
If you are traveling to a non-English talking country it can be challenging to communicate the symptoms to obtain the correct medication. I can still remember the time I was standing in a chemist in Nice, France miming blowing my nose and coughing to explain my family member’s symptoms. Humorous for them no doubt, but not so enjoyable for me knowing I had a coughing and splurting child in the hotel room.
By being prepared before you embark on your travels you will minimize mayhem and maximize fun.
Happy trails!
