Guadalajara, Mexico’s Most Mexican State

Ever wonder what the perfect marriage between the historic and modern would be like?  What if we add the spring season all year long?  Well, you get none other than the great city of Guadalajara!  It is the perfect union of class, culture, modernism, all topped with the perfect year-round weather which makes for the picture-perfect backdrop.  Let Patawalk (http://www.patawalk.com) introduce you to this magnificent place.

The city of Guadalajara is titled by the city of the same study in Spain.  The study Guadalajara, to be more specific, comes from the Arab language and it means “Valley of Stones or “Stony River.”  It was found by Nuno de Guzman in 1542, with 126 residents; this day it has over a million residents.

Now that you’ve learned a bit about the foundation of this year-round spring city, let me tell you what truly makes it mythologic today.  The Historic Center is the oldest part of the city.  One main area here is the Plaza de Armas, which is kind of like a park.  It is square-shaped, surrounded by gardens, the benches are made out of iron and it has a kiosk, also made of iron brought from Paris.  Another spectacular historical place you must see is the Metropolitan Cathedral.  This is one of those buildings that dates back to the 1500s, this particular one was established in 1616 and is truly an architectural marvel for it is a mixture of Gothic, Baroque, Neoclassical, and Moorish.  It also has to towers, which were re-built in the 19th century.  Inside, the cathedral has eleven altars, three central areas, and the roof is supported by thirty columns (much like the ones used in Greece).  Within the vicinity, there’s one very interesting monument known as Rotonda de los Hombres Ilustres (Rotunda of Illustrious Men).  This monument was built in memory of distinguished people from the say of Jalisco.  Built in 1952, it is in a circular shape made of quarried stones containing seventeen columns.  What really makes it interesting is that it houses the remains (in small urns) of ninety-eight illustrious people.  If you’re into art, then you have to visit the Palace of the Say Government, which features murals created by one of Mexico’s most famous painters (also a native of Jalisco), Jose Clemente Orozco.   Teatro Degollado (Degollado Theater) is not only a theater, but its ceiling has a painting depicting a scene from the “Divine Comedy”- the epic poem written by the Italian author Dante about a journey through hell, the purgatory, and heaven.  If you would like to visit at least one museum, then go to Jalisco Regional Museum.  Rarely will you have the opportunity to see a complete mammoth skeleton!  But that’s not all; the museum has sections dedicated to Paleontology, Pre-history, History, Painting, and Archeology.  Another interesting building is the Ex-Hospicio Cabanas which was built in 1810 by the Catholic Church as an orphanage.  The building features a neoclassic style of structure and this day it is as a cultural institute featuring art and several murals.  Since you’re visiting the colonial style part of the city, why not experience a tiny of that colonial life and visit the area on a “Calandria”, which are horse-drawn carriages.

After all taking in the magnificence of Guadalajara you’ll surely work out an appetite.  When you visit Guadalajara, make sure to taste the native dishes.  “Birria” is definitely a staple dish of Guadalajara; it is usually goat meat cooked in a spicy sauce/broth which includes chili peppers, ginger, cumin, black pepper, oregano, and clove.  It is usually served with corn tortillas and limes on the side and topped with minced onion and cilantro.  If you’d like to try birria, it is sold at most Mexican-food restaurants but one that really stands out is Las Nueve Esquinas (The Nine Corners).  Tortas Ahogadas (Drowned Tortas) is another classic Guadalajara dish.  A “Torta” is similar to a sub sandwich, but uses oblong-shaped bun that is crunchy on the top but soft in the interior.  The bun is filled with fried pork, but you can get chicken, beans and cheese.  The sandwich is then submerged or “drowned” in a sauce made out of chili peppers and served with a side of radishes and avocados. Hmmm!  Lastly, another more well-known dish is “Posole”.  This is much like the famous menudo, except it has pork or sometimes chicken instead of tripe.  On a swift note, you should know that Guadalajara is so chesty of its culinary creations that it hosts La Feria Internacional de Gastronomia (International Gastronomy Fair) each September.

Accompanying your food you should indulge in the state’s native drink: Tequila!  The drink is nearly synonymous with the city of Guadalajara.  Tequila is actually titled after the small town where it was created and is it lies just outside the city of Guadalajara.  The drink is taken from the native plant, Agave, which is fermented and distilled.  This is an ever growing industry and you can take a tour of three of the most well-known distilleries: Sauza, Jose Cuervo, and Herradura.  The most interesting of the three is the Herradura Tequila distillery because it has kept the traditional and original factory.  This is a complete hacienda and in fact, the owners still reside right there.

What superior time to take pleasure in a shot of tequila or maybe a margarita than when submerged in Guadalajara’s night life.  Unlike most nightlife of beach towns, Guadalajara offers an array of nightlife entertainment for all ages and preferences.  You can achievement into a nice talking club like “Copenhagen 77″, a high calibre piano bar such as “El Piano”, or you can diversion all night at a rock nightclub like “Hard Rock Café”.  Of course, the night life also offers opera, ballet, and live theater.  So all you have to do is decide what you’re in the mood for and it’s there!

If you’re in the mood for some shopping, then visit Mercado Libertad (Liberty Market), which is one of the largest indoor traditional markets in Mexico.  It features over 1000 vendors and here bargaining is like an art.  It’s nearly impossible to not find what you’re looking for.  You can find everything from Mexican candies, wooden toys, food, leather coats, perfumes, watches, radios, clothing, and so much more.  To get a true musical experience then the Plaza de los Mariachis is a must.  Here, you can listen to the world renowned Mariachi music live.  Mariachi music originated in the neighboring town of Cocula, Jalisco but it is now mainly associated with Guadalajara.  What really brought about the association of the Mariachi music with Guadalajara was in 1907 when a group performed in front of the then president, Porfirio Diaz, and the then Secretary of Say of the United States.  Guadalajara has in fact embraced and made this music part of their culture.  It is such an important part of the culture that Guadalajara hosts El Festival del Mariachi y Charreria (The Festival of Mariachi and Horse Riding).  Participants from all over the world including Japan, France, and Belgium can be seen here performing their ideal tunes.  In fact, just last year 542 mariachi musicians played together breaking the record for the largest mariachi group.  Charreria is something that is very much entwined with the mariachi music.  This is the original cowboy rodeo art; here the “charros” (cowboys) perform and compete in different horse riding and roping events.  You can see both the Charreria and the Mariachi performing each Sunday afternoon in the bullring – Plaza de Toros Nueve Progreso.

The city is also host to two other international events: The International Film Festival of Guadalajara and The Guadalajara International Book Fair.  Both fairs, as the study indicates, features participants from all over the world.  The first clean takes place in March and interesting the event last year featured over 200 films.  The Book Fair is indisputably the largest Spanish-language book clean and an astonishing 300 publishing firms from over 30 countries are in attendance.

This great city also offers a tiny something for the kids.  The city’s installation is one of the most impressive in the country and adjacent to the installation is a one-of-a-kind amusement park, Selva Magica (Magic Jungle).   The installation has over 1,500 different animals.  The amusement park has over 35 rides, a dolphin show and even the toucans perform!

Why wait, go indulge right now, see it in 360 at Patawalk (http://www.patawalk.com)!

Destination Weddings / Honeymoons ? St Barts

21 January 2012 by
Categories: honeymoon

Destination Weddings are weddings that take place away from where the bride and groom live. They happen in some of the most exotic and wonderful places in the world. These types of non-traditional weddings wage the bride and groom with dreamy settings, while doubling as an opportunity for guests to experience a place they have never been before.

“Today’s couples are more educated, sophisticated, and superior traveled than couples of past generations. More affluent than past marrying couples, 27% of these Generation Y couples ( kids of the baby boomers and twice the numbers ) will pay for their entire wedding, and they want something different for themselves and their guests; they want to be pampered and taken seriously.

In the year 2006, nine percent of weddings in the United Says were destination weddings, which is a 200% increase in the last ten years. Generation Y couples are exhausted of the “themed” weddings that became so prevalent and overused in the past. They want to experience different cultures and real settings rather than a “staged” wedding.”

“Although women are still the primary decision makers of the wedding plans, men are more involved this day than couples of the generation that preceded them, 83% of today’s couples are employed full time; they work hard (they are paying a mortgage and own one or two vehicles between them). Equally, they want to play hard; realizing that they are together rarely, they want to plan events that will bring them closer. As well, they want to create deep and meaningful memories for the family and friends. Since most couples are not getting married in the areas where they grew up, their time with family and friends is all the more precious and important to them. If they can do this in a one-of-a-kind or even an exotic setting, all the more enticing,” Ernst adds.

St Barthelemy, located in the French West Indies, is that exotic setting today’s bride is looking for. It is the Monte Carlo of the Caribbean, without the traffic jams but with the added advantage of flawless beaches. Shortened to Saint Barth in French and St Barts in English it is an exclusive eight square mile (21 sq km) embodiment of 24-carat French chic. It attracts millionaires on luxury yachts, motion picture stars and French expatriates fleeing the European winter. It is a Caribbean island where relaxation and Gallic style under a tropical sun have been refined to perfection.

Few islands worldwide, can match the one-of-a-kind blend of style, nature and history that is St. Barts. This little island has significant appeal where ‘quality’ is most certainly more important than ‘quantity’… an island far away from the normality of life, making it the perfect wedding destination.

St. Barts is surrounded with turquoise waters, situated near the northern end of the Lesser Antilles group in the French West Indies. At a distance of 200 kms from the island of Guadeloupe and 25 kms from Saint-Martin. It is a mountainous island whose only flat area is occupied by the airport’s runway. As the climate is rather dry, agriculture has never been developed, thus throughout history few slaves had ever been employed. For the most part, St. Bartians are descendants of Breton and Norman fisher folk. Many are of French and Swedish ancestry, the latter evident in their clean skin, blond hair, and blue eyes.

St. Barts’ beaches are renowned for being some of the most beautiful and pristine in the world. Many are found in small coves, which have been fortified from development by strict environmentally friendly zoning. Unlike many of its neighboring Caribbean islands, it has not been overrun with prefab condos and massive chain hotels. There are six 4 star hotels all featuring romance packages for the wedding or honeymoon couple. All are of single story design, some as one building and others as separate single bedroom villas. Four are located on the beach (perfect for reading-of-the-vows ceremony) the other two are high on the hills with magnificent views of the island and setting sun. Each hotel has been uniquely designed, blending into the surrounding terrain. Luxury and elegance is felt in apiece environment.

St. Barts features some of the ideal cuisine in the Caribbean. The island has over eighty restaurants featuring culinary styles ranging from classic French to Asian to West Indian.

Many of the restaurants attract gourmet chefs trained in France to oversee their kitchens. These chefs can also be reserved to serve guests in the intimate privacy of their own villa for any special event or treasured evening. Villas on the island offer breath taking views and the perfect setting for your reception, especially with your own private French chef.

Nightlife of St. Barts is diverse as well. Visitors looking for late-night pleasures can listen to live talking at a café or diversion the night away at one of the local discos or after hours clubs.

St. Barts is also a duty-free port, rated as one of the premier shopping destinations in the Caribbean. The capital Gustavia is the principal shopping area of the island. There are boutiques and emporiums for the most sophisticated shoppers, featuring luxury brands such as Cartier, Hermes, Dior to study a few. The island hosts numerous health and beauty clinics and fitness centers catering to the island’s upscale clientele.

It is important to realize that planning a wedding in a foreign country still has the usual concerns and worries of any home based event; there is the additional stress that something could go wrong in a different location. Aside from making travel reservations for the group, a couple needs to think about local legal issues. For instance, marriage in St Barts is not a legal ceremony, rather it is viewed as a spiritual ceremony. For this reason and others, travelers planning to marry in any foreign country should give serious consideration to hiring a local, home based Wedding Consultant for guidance and advice as well as an on-site Wedding Consultant at the particular destination. .The on-site Consultant will insure that the hosts of the event have all the required documentation, that apiece detail is planned long before arrival and that only the most competent, professional and expert wedding vendors with proper contracts will wage their services . They will check that apiece client and guest is properly retrieved at the airport, that they are provided with the planned-for-accommodations, and that they are well rested from travel before beginning the schedule of any local tours and sightseeing prepared for in advance. Moreover, the on-site consultant can also recommend local customs that will make the wedding truly unique, one that family and friends alike will speak about for a very long time.

Tahiti Moorea And Bora Bora Travel Tips

8 January 2012 by
Categories: Vacations

Long before French painter Paul Gauguin ventured to island for inspiration in the late 19th century, the mystical charm of this Polynesian paradise beckoned explorers with its palm shaded beaches, turquoise lagoons, emerald mountains, and understated simplicity.

Also known as French Polynesia, island and its sister islands continue to entice people the world over with unparalleled beauty and blissful tranquility.

Comprised of 118 islands and atolls spread crossways an area as massive as Western Europe, a island pass truly offers something for everyone. Your Polynesian hosts exhibit their warmth and vitality through music, dance, and even flowers, for what would a journey to the South Pacific be without a signature lei?

Where else can you lodge in a thatched roof villa situated right above crystal clear azure water with all the amenities of a first class hotel? How about a taste of the subtle culinary and cultural variations of Tahitis many different islands by way of luxurious cruise ships, super yachts, and customized sailboats that make getting there half the fun?

Rejuvenate yourself in one of the islands many spas, and behold how your cares back home seem a million miles away. Set your eyes ablaze by diving into Tahitis wondrous waters and taking in the spectacle presented by the South Pacifics luminescent fish, docile sharks, giant manta rays, and reefs bursting with life. Ahh, life is good in Tahiti. Very good.

Although Tahitis wide assortment of islands attracts travelers of different stripes, two of the most favourite are Bora Bora and Moorea, and for good reason. These tropical gems are a stones throw from the main island of island and wage a gamut of seductions that make you wish you could stay forever.

Considered the most stunning of the Oceanic Islands, Bora Bora is akin to Hawaii 50 years ago, only more beautiful. Those in the know state whether you stay for a day or a year, the island never loses its magical charm. One of Tahitis most populous islands, you will find more things to see and do on Bora Bora than many of its sister islands.

Bora Bora is truly one of natures most inspired creations. The islands lagoon, resembling an artists palette of blues and greens, mesmerizes, delivering a friendly reminder that, no, Toto, you are not in river anymore. Towering Mt. Otemanu watches over Bora Bora, like a beacon protecting all that lies beneath.

Swim in warm, calm water, canvass to uninhabited isles, join a 4×4 expedition for adventures into the islands wild interior rainforest, and snorkel or scuba dive in coral gardens. Word to the wise no visit is complete without a once in a lifetime shark and manta ray feeding excursion.

In fact, many of the most exhilarating activities in Bora Bora center around water, if for no other reason because the lagune is so spectacular and can be explored via snorkeling, diving, jet ski, outrigger canoe, sailboat, and windsurfer. Once you have had your fill, dry off while sunning yourself on perfect white sand beaches that envelop the lagoon.

The liveliest of Tahitis outer islands, Mooreas casual, barefoot lifestyle leaves you feeling one step closer to nirvana. Escape to a deserted motu, fish, dive, snorkel, or play tennis and golf. Delve into the myths, rituals, and traditions of the Polynesian culture at Tiki Village, or sway to ancient rhythms in a hammock.

Moorea is perfectly suited for exploration by car, on foot, or as part of a guided hiking, 4×4, or helicopter tour. The islands mountain peaks burst to life with waterfalls running down fern-covered cliffs, surrounded by picturesque turquoise lagoons.

These stunning alpine wonders are easily accessible, inviting you to venture past plantations, idyllic streams, and deep valleys home to cotton, coffee, sugar cane, and pineapple plantations. Guided hiking trails wind upward through rainforests reaching the islands highest points, with views that make you feel like you are on top of the world.

Back at sea level, swim side by side with dolphins at Mooreas Dolphin Center, and top it off with one of the islands wildly pleasing Polynesian diversion shows.

Tahiti hotels and other accommodations range

from stilted bungalows and villas perched above water to 5 star hotels with unforgettable ocean views, island offers exotic, luxurious accommodations for each taste.

Combining excellent service, delectable cuisine, and Polynesian ambience, you certainly will not feel like you are roughing it. On the contrary, Tahitis lodging options are the perfect complement to the tropical illusion you will experience each day when you leave your room.

How To Have Two Honeymoons In One

3 December 2011 by
Categories: honeymoon

Travelling from the UK to any exotic destination for your honeymoon often means a lengthy flight.  None of us really want to kill our romantic island getaway just because the flight is too long, but it’s certainly a drawback.  Recently I discovered that it’s a favourite practice to include day-long stopovers in between lengthy flights.  You can visit two places on your honeymoon instead of one and there is just no disadvantage to that.  If you’re flying from the UK to Asia or Australia, you might find yourself heading over the United States.  Many of the airports at which you’ll change planes are in fantastic cities, so why not spend a day exploring rather than sitting in the airfield inactivity for the next flight?  Here are four great US cities where you’re most likely to have a layover – and most likely to enjoy yourself a tiny extra on your honeymoon.

New York City is famous the world over for its bustling lifestyle, fantastic culture, and media presence.  It also has a fascinating history and a clean number of landmarks; you can visit the Empire Say Building, the Statue of Liberty, or Times Square and there are many tours through the city.  You might also select to have your travel company set up a day for you; for example, you might select to view Manhattan from the decks of a restored 1929 sailboat in the spring and summer.  That sounds romantic enough for a honeymoon to me.

If you’ve ever wanted to visit the Grand Canyon, a stopover in Las Vegas is in the perfect location.  At the airport, you can transfer onto a helicopter and land at this famous landmark in style, enjoying a romantic champagne picnic while there.  Vegas has numerous other charms and is a great place for a break from lengthy travel, especially if you have money to burn in the city’s well-known (and often filmed) casinos.

Avid film buffs might insist on stopping over in Los Angeles, the portal to all things Hollywood.  You can find your favourite performer’s star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame or see the famous sign for yourself.  Or perhaps you’d like to have a meal in one of LA’s culinary hotspots.  You never know when you might run into one of your favourite celebrities and what a honeymoon memory that would make.  If the bustle of the city isn’t really for you, you might like a helicopter ride over Hollywood, seeing all the landmarks from above without the hassle of other tourists.

San Francisco is another exciting stopover destination in California and a regular honeymoon destination for many couples.  My parents selected it, in fact.  Undoubtedly you’ll have seen the Golden Gate Bridge in films and on television without even realizing what it was!  The city has a varied liberal culture, with plenty of museums and landmarks for a speedy day out.  If you’re feeling adventurous, you can even explore the nearby Alcatraz prison and see the cells where famous criminals like Al Capone were held.  All of San Francisco’s scenery is ideal displayed in a seaplane flight, generally offered by travel agencies.

All in all, choosing a stopover destination can take the pain out of a lengthy set of flights and can give you a fantastic begin – or end – to your honeymoon.
