The Top Five Family Vacation Spots
Traveling with your whole family can be a difficult thing to plan. There are a lot of factors to take into consideration if you want everyone to have a good time. But choosing the right destination is undoubtedly the most important decision of all. Here are some of the ideal family pass spots to select from.
1. When you speak about family vacations, you pretty much have to speak about Disney World in central Florida. If your family hasn’t been there yet, then you really need to go soon. Disney World offers so much entertainment value for a family that it’s hard to nearly know where to start. There are four giant theme parks including the Magic Kingdom, Epcot Center, MGM studios, and Animal Kingdom. Besides that, there are also two massive water parks, Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon. All of this fun family entertainment is open year-round too.
2. If a tropical pass is what you had in mind, think about the Atlantis Resort located on Paradise Island in the Bahamas. There is plenty here to keep everyone in the family involved and having fun. For instance, it has 11 swimming pools with water slides including the Mayan Drop that plunges six stories down into the water. Kids under 12 will enjoy the Discovery Channel Camp that instructs about sea life, arts and crafts, and provides guided expeditions. Adults can enjoy golfing, snorkeling, and other outdoor activities.
3. If you would rather enjoy the snow, then be sure to visit Snowbird Resort in Snowbird Utah. Of course, the whole family can enjoy great skiing, and children under 12 can even ski free. But there is a whole range of other snow related activities including snowshoeing, snowboarding, snowmobiling, cover skating, and snow tubing. And for adults the resort also offers a spa and fitness club.
4. For a family pass that is a tiny out of the ordinary try the Treesort in Takilna, Oregon. The Treesort features a Swiss Family Robinson themed pass that includes swinging bridges, forts, wooden swings, and plenty of climbing fun. And then there the 160 ft. long zip-line that is also a favourite attraction. And of course you can always enjoy the swimming pool, and the campsite area as well.
5. If you want to combine both fun activities and education in the same pass think about Williamsburg, Virginia. At the Kingsmill resort you are well within driving distance of both Busch Gardens and historic Colonial Williamsburg. In addition, you are also close to both Richmond and Norfolk, Virginia. With all of that entertainment and historical value close at hand, there is plenty to keep everyone in the family active and having fun. And the resort itself offers both golf and tennis courses as well as a marina.
Any of these five family pass spots would be a great choice for your next getaway. Why not begin making your plans right away?

Five Travel Tips for Florence

1 The Uffizi Gallery Tip
The Uffizi Gallery contains some of the most important and greatest art collections in the world. It is also the world’s oldest museum. Most tour guide books and online travel sites will urge you to ensure that a visit to the Uffiizi is included as part of any Florence vacation, no matter how short. What most of them change to tell you, or at least stress with adequate emphasis, is that without a pre-booked ticket, you might not be healthy to visit the Uffizi at all!
My wife and I had a three day holiday in Florence at the beginning of April 2005. We had planned on visiting the Uffizi Gallery and as soon as we checked in at our hotel we telephoned the room to buy tickets. After several attempts without our calls being answered, we asked the hotel reception to do the booking for us. They explained that it was almost always difficult to get through on the booking line and that our three day stay might not wage adequate notice to make a booking possible. Despite this, the hotel staff were most happy to keep trying whilst we enjoyed the other wonders of Florence. We decided to check out the situation for ourselves the next day but discovered queues that hardly seemed to move, stretching for an enormous distance around the area of the Uffizi. Queuing all day was certainly not the way we wanted to spend our time in Florence, so we decided to leave things in the capable hands of the reception staff whilst we enjoyed the other attractions that we had come to see. The following evening, we were informed that after many fruitless attempts at getting through on the booking line, success had finally been reached but only to receive information that all tickets were sold for the following day. We consequently missed out on seeing many of Florence’s greatest art treasures and our top travel tip for anyone visiting Florence on a short stay pass is to book tickets for the Uffizi Gallery online some time before their holiday.
2 The Inside Tip for the Duomo
Another of the wonders of Florence not to be missed is the Duomo. Actually, it is impossible to miss this magnificent building because it dominates the city and can be seen from virtually everywhere. Savour the views of it whilst enjoying a coffee at one of the cafes in the surrounding piazza. Walk around it, pausing each now and then to appreciate it from each aspect. View it from more distant, elevated, positions around the city. This was once the largest cathedral in the world and even now, almost six hundred years after it was built, it is the fourth largest. Florence always insisted on everything being the biggest and the ideal but what really makes the Duomo one-of-a-kind is its dome or “Cupola”. When Fillipo Brunelleschi undertook this masterpiece of renaissance architecture, no one believed that such a dome was possible. The secret had been lost for over a thousand years but Brunelleschi travelled to Rome to unravel it by analyzing the dome of the ancient Pantheon.
My tip for the Duomo is to ascend this astounding feat of engineering. You can do so by entering a stairway that leads up inside the dome, between its inner and outer shells. When you reach the top, you can step outside onto an external room that provides magnificent views of the city and the surrounding Tuscan countryside. This room was never completed however, so your views are restricted to northerly and westerly directions.
3 Palazzo Vecchio – David’s Copy Tip
Perhaps the next most famous landmark of Florence is the Palazzo Vecchio. Once again, it is a building worth enjoying from each aspect on the outside before entering to explore its fascinating, art filled, interior.
My tip for the Palazzo Vecchio is to spare a few minutes looking at the pollution-streaked COPY of the world’s most famous statue, realizing that even though the original Michelangelo’s David is safely inside the Accademia, the copy is standing just where the original once stood.
4 River Arno Cross Over Tip
This tip is to retreat from the busiest tourist attractions of the city centre and to cross the Arno river via the Ponte Vecchio. The crowds on this wonderful, historic bridge will probably be even more tightly packed than in the central Piazzas you have just left but within a hundred metres of the other side, they will have thinned out and you can explore the delights of the Boboli gardens and the Palazzo Pitti before travel up the meandering paths to the Piazzo Michelangelo which stands on a beautiful hill overlooking Florence and its surrounds.
5 A final Florence travel tip – Avoiding “Stendhal Sydrome”
Florence has so much beauty that each year, there are a few tourists who have to be treated at local hospitals for a condition known as “Stendhal Syndrome”. Symptoms range from feeling fearful to complete exhaustion. Stendhal was a French tourist whose nineteenth century tour of Florence overloaded his senses so much that he collapsed with these symptoms.
My final travel tip for a short pass in Florence is not to try to pack too much in. Even if Florence’s wealth of art treasures, beauty, and architectural accomplishments don’t actually send you running for medical help, they can easily overwhelm a tourist who fails to heed this advice.

It’s nearly the end of the school year, and, despite the soaring cost of gas, you likely have some travel in store for you and the family during the coming months. Here are five ideas you can keep at the back of your mind when the “how much longer?” questions begin coming fast and furious.
1. Twins and triplets - Use “twins” to have everyone study one thing that comes in twins. Think “mom and dad,” “soup and salad,” “stop and go.” When it’s your turn, you can shout out an answer. If the next mortal doesn’t have an answer in three seconds, the following mortal can fill in. Players keep score by how many they have come up with. It’s obviously simple at first, but gets harder after a few times around. “Triplets” is even more challenging.
2. Horse – The first player states a letter and the following players have to add letters until a word is formed. The player who adds a letter that forms any word loses. The trick is that players must have a word in mind that could be created as they add a letter. So spelling H-O-R and adding an S might lead to forming “Horse” for the next player unless they could form a word that starts with H-O-R-S but does not have an E next.
3. Which would you rather be? – Choose odd combinations of things to quiz people on their inner selves and true desires. “What would you rather be: a whale or a shark? A theater usher or a candy counter attendant? A professional singer or a librarian? A dog or a cat?” The list goes on and on, only limited by your imagination and curiosity. You might actually learn something about your children or spouse!
4. License plates – This is an old chestnut, but can keep children busy for a few minutes at least while they realize that license plates come on automobiles from all over the country. Some children move years before seeing one from Hawaii or Alaska.
5. Alphabet soup – I nearly hit a truck looking for an R during a current automobile trip so I’m cautious about this game. In this game, apiece player has to find letters of the alphabet in alphabetical order starting with A. Each player keeps track and tries to refrain cheating. Tiny children love to hunt for letters while they ride, and this game can be safely played from the back seat.
That should be enough to keep them at bay for at least ten miles. Long travel gives fathers the added concern of keeping children from getting bored on the journey. Read more about tips for fathers traveling with kids.

Picture This:
You are on vacation, lying on a beach chair and you feel a sharp pain in your side. You are suddenly doubled over, and have to be taken away in an ambulance to the hospital.
At the hospital, they ask you for your insurance. You suddenly get more anxious when you realize that you are not covered. Your trip to the hospital swiftly becomes several thousand dollars. Your trip is ruined. How are you going to afford the bill?
When do you need Travel Insurance?
Do you travel outside of your country or province? Whether it is for a six-month winter visit or a swift trip crossways the border to go shopping, you need travel insurance.
Travel Insurance is important while on a trip: it covers your emergency medical expenses.
? It is not uncommon to be charged ,500 per day in a U.S. hospital or a hospital in Mexico and the Caribbean. If you have to be air evacuated from Europe or Asia due to a medical emergency, costs might be in excess of ,000, in addition to the medical bills.
If you want financial protection, you need travel insurance.
? Do you think you are too old? Wrong. There are plans for any age. The older you are, the more likely there will be a travel insurance claim. You especially need travel insurance.
What does Travel Insurance cover?
It covers emergency medical expenses, up to a maximum of 1 million to 5 million dollars, depending on the plan and company. Examples typically include:

? Ambulance transportation
? Bringing someone to your bedside from home
? Emergency dental needs
? Emergency chiropractor needs
What is not covered?
? Planned medical treatment
? Routinely scheduled medical treatment
(e.g.: physicals, scheduled blood work in use with physical)
The largest number of unpaid claims is due to:
? any treatment that is not for an unforeseen or unexpected medical emergency
? a pre-existing condition that has not been stable (during a period of time specified in your policy)
How does Travel Insurance work?
? The insurance must be bought before leaving on the trip.
? Any pre-existing conditions must be stable prior to leaving – this might be required anywhere from 60 to 180 days typically – see your particular plan for details.
? It might refrain out-of-pocket expenses in most cases, as your hospital bill might be sent directly to the insurer.
Hot Tip: Without travel insurance you will be asked to pay any medical and hospital expenses upfront.

Here are five helpful tips to utilize your travel insurance
1. Get the travel insurance before you go. If there is a claim, the company will verify that the trip began after the travel insurance was purchased.
2. Tell your travel companions about your travel insurance, so that they know what to do if something happens to you, and you are unable to phone in your claim. Here is why:
? It will expedite your treatment, and make it easier to file your claim.

3. Do not throw away receipts from your trip. Travel insurance often covers extra expenses for meals, hotel, phone calls and taxi related to your relocation or delayed return home due to a medical emergency.
4. Keep one copy of the travel insurance in your notecase or purse, and one in your luggage. If your notecase or contract is stolen, you still have your luggage copy. If your luggage is missing, you still have your notecase or contract copy.
5. E-mail yourself a copy of the proof of travel insurance so that you can access it if you lose it or get separated from your luggage. Ensure that you use a web-based email statement that you can access away from home.
Bonus tip: Your travel insurance might cover to have a loved one transported to your hospital bedside – do not be afraid to inquire about it.
