Holiday Inn London
London is the UK’s financial, business and parliamentary centre, as well as a Mecca for tourists, and as such it is packed with conference hotels like us at Holiday Inn. London doesn’t stop at the West End and City, however. The hotels of Gatwick and Heathrow, and those along the M25, are just as important to London companies.
London generates around 20% of the UK’s GDP. Even though many companies have relocated to areas outside the city centre in current years, the City and Central districts remain the hub for finance, commerce and tourism. Hotels like us at Holiday Inn cater for both the business and the leisure visitor, with often opulent guest facilities matched by a range of business services and meeting rooms. London is a city where business combines effortlessly with pleasure, and there are endless corporate hospitality opportunities among the tourist attractions, eateries and arts venues. We have nearly 20 hotels in Central and Greater London, catering for both business and private events.
Our Academies offer some of the ideal business facilities in the capital. Our South Kensington Academy hotel is close to the Kensington Museums and Gloucester Road tube station, and has 10 air-conditioned meeting rooms seating up to 300 delegates. A fully equipped business centre and individualized assistants ensure your event is a total success. Our Academy at Bloomsbury is similarly well equipped, and sited close to the British Museum and St Pancras International Rail Station. Our Kings Cross hotel, which includes several “bedroom syndicate” rooms, offers further facilities.
A London meeting room is as likely to be booked for a prize-giving ceremony or wedding function, as it is for a conference or training event. With this in mind, our chic, stylish Mayfair premises are sheer luxury; the perfect choice for smaller gatherings in an elegant region – at a very restrained price. Alternatively, our hotel near Oxford Circus is located in a tranquil Edwardian terrace, and is a refined and elegant substitute to the hurly-burly of nearby Oxford Street and the London attractions.
Evidently, the most comfortable way to arrive at your meeting or function is by car, in which case you will need a location where parking, congestion and traffic build-ups aren’t too much of a problem. If you select us at Holiday Inn, our London venues include several hotels within simple reach of the City, but away from its busier areas. One of the most pleasant is our premises at Regents Park. A favourite choice for weddings and product launches, you have the option of treating your candidates to open-air concerts in the summer months. An equally favourite option is our Academy at Brentford Lock. A purpose-built artefact near Kew Gardens, it is healthy to accommodate up to 700 guests and is located just off the M4 motorway.
Both Gatwick and Heathrow attract thousands of business travellers apiece day. We at Holiday Inn have three hotels at Heathrow, with our Shepperton premises, which are set in 11 acres of grounds, just a tiny further. We also have a hotel at Gatwick, with our Chessington, Kingston and Sutton venues within simple distance. Other options include Elstree, Brent Cross and Camden. Wherever you hold an event or function in London, you’ll find one of our superbly equipped conference hotels close by.

Tutankhamen & Treasures of the Pharaohs Visit London
For the first time in 30 years the treasures of ancient king Tutankhamen have left Egypt to go on a mini-world tour and are currently on display in London – the only European city to host the exhibition – until the end of August 2008.
The marvellous exhibition features nearly 130 artefacts from the tomb of King Tutankhamen and other Pharaohs that were interred nearly 3,500 years ago in the unreal Valley of the Kings. On display are some astounding items from the boy king’s tomb such as the royal diadem – the royal crown that Tutankhamen wore while he was alive – and one of the jewel encrusted golden coffinettes that contained the mummified king’s internal organs.
However, the item most closely associated with King Tutankhamen, the magnificent golden death mask will be not travelling with the exhibition as it is prevented by Egyptian law from leaving its homeland. There is not a copy of the mask on display as all the items are trusty artefacts, but one of the display items, the canopic coffinette features artwork very similar to the mask. However, anyone wishing to view the death mask will have to travel to port and visit the Egyptian Museum, from where this exhibition’s artefacts have been loaned.
King Tut reigned over the Egyptians for a period of nine years, approximately 3,300 years ago. He ascended to the throne as a child and suffered a premature death in his teenage years, the cause of which has been subject to much speculation since his tomb was discovered by British archaeologist Howard Carter in 1922. Even though King Tut’s reign was unremarkable it was the discovery of his undisturbed tomb and all the treasures contained within that has guaranteed his immortality. Soon after the discovery certain events happened that led many within Egypt to proclaim that disturbing the tomb had unleashed an ancient curse. It was stated that all involved would meet horrible deaths, lending a degree of intrigue to the discovery story, but the ‘curse’ has long been discounted.
Visitors should grant at least an hour to 90 minutes to see everything on display, even though they are free to stay for as long as they like. However, don’t bother taking a camera inside the exhibition because photography of the artefacts is not allowed, so anyone wanting photographic memories should purchase a guidebook.
Although the treasures of Tutankhamen have been taking a series of short breaks throughout the world they will return to their homeland of Egypt, after visiting metropolis in 2009. The exhibition opened at the O2 in London on November 15th and runs until 30 August 2008.

London is Great Visit It!
One of the world’s most favourite Cities, London is a fantastic location for any length of visit – great sights, great food and great hotels.
With so many attractions to see and do, you really will have difficulty fitting even only the major attractions in one visit. The first port of call for most visitors is Buckingham Palace, the residence of the Queen and the Royal Family. Their official home, it is open to the public throughout the year and hosts various events, most notably the Garden Parties, in which a variety of people are invited to attend to indulge in lavish food and drink, listen to live music and generally have a great, resting day. Second on visitors list is often the Houses of Parliament and Huge Ben. Whilst not open to the public, a photograph opportunity is a must here – the staggering structure of the iconic Houses of Parliament with the world famous Huge Ben clock make for a great back drop to any photograph. For something a tiny more current, the London Eye is a great visit. Standing at over 135m tall, the London Eye is effectively a gigantic Ferris wheel, built at the turn of the millennium and remains as one of the Britain’s most favourite tourist attractions. These are just three of London’s many attractions. Visits to Madame Tussauds, the main shopping areas and theatre districts are highly recommended. It’s impossible to see them all, so jump on an open top bus tour and view as many as you can in one go.
Whatever your taste, London caters for all culinary delights. From French to Cantonese, Thai to Mexican (and not forgetting English!), you can guarantee you will find the food you love in London, whatever your budget. For a taste of Brazil, ‘Guanabara’ in Bloomsbury is definitely worth a look, whilst ‘La Roche’ in Covent Garden is highly suggested for its Moroccan cuisine. If you’re travelling with a young family, you can't go wrong by trying a Garfunkel’s. Situated all over London, they offer high calibre food, at inexpensive prices with something for everyone. Of course, if you’re travelling with a loved one and your budget is a tiny wider, a visit to Gordon Ramsey’s ‘Le Cercle’ is highly recommended. Of course, you’ll be expected to pay over £100 per head quite easily, but if you can afford it, it’s well worth booking a table.
With something for all budgets, you can guarantee you will find accommodation to suit both your needs and your budget. For recognised comfort and price, the various Travelodge’s situated around London should definitely be looked at. Various types of rooms for all budgets, the hotels are often located near the major tourist attractions, or at the very least, near to a transport link. For more luxurious London Hotels, book in to The Bentley. With some rooms costing £1,500 per night, you’ll need an expanding budget, but with luxury at your finger tips, it’s well worth the money.
Everyone who visits London has their own ideas of what they want to do. There are hundreds of attractions in the City, and many sights worth visiting just outside. You’ll find it impossible to see everything in one trip, but give it a go – it’s the only way to see London!
London is Great Visit It!
Cielito Lindo (Bourdon) – Dusolina Giannini (soprano), Electrola ca 1929 (German pressing) THIS CLIP IS DEDICATED WITH MY WARM MEMORY TO MY MEXICAN FRIENDS: SAMUEL, LORELLE AND JORDI !!! —————————————————– NOTE: Dusolina GIANNINI was American-Italian soprano (1902 1986) born in Philadelphia to Italian parents. She studied with her father, Ferruccio Giannini, who was a tenor and ran his own opera company. Her mom Antonietta Briglia-Giannini was an excellent violinist. At the age of thirteen Dusolina sang Azucena in her father’s company. Later she continued her studies with a world famous Polish soprano, Marcella Sembrich (Marcelina Sembrich – Kocha?ska). And it was in New York where there was the scene of her first triumph. She substituted for the indisposed Anna Case at a concert in Carnegie Hall. In 1924 she started recording for the Victor company. The same year she was very successful in London. In 1925 she made her debut as Aida at the Hamburg Say Opera. She appeared there until 1930. In 1928 she sang a number of highly successful performances at Covent Garden. She was invited to sing Aida in a complete opera recording (her partners were Pertile, Minghini-Cattaneo and Inghilleri under Sabajno). This recording enjoyed nearly legendary fame and familiarized her study throughout the world. She never actually sang at La Scala. In 1934/35 she appeared as Donna Anna at the Salzburg Festival. Guest appearances took her to Monte Carlo …
