Rhodes the jewel of the Greek Islands, lidos and getting there
Rhodes was voted 5th in the Trip Advisor Travellers’ Choice Most Popular Destination awards in 2008, and it is simple to see why. The island is the 3rd largest of the Dodecanese, part of the South Aegean Greek islands flanking the East coast of Turkey, and is locally known as ‘Island of the Sun’ as it boasts at least 300 days sunshine a year. Rhodes retains a strong Greek influence, whilst openly encouraging visitors, particularly in the South and interior of the island. The pace of life is slow and relaxing, a perfect getaway from the stresses and strains of normal working life. Crime rates on the island are extremely low.
Greek culture is centered on family life, and kids are warmly welcomed in bars and restaurants. There are many historical influences, including the remnants of the Colossus of Rhodes in Rhodes town, the capital of the island, and many archaeological sites from different eras found at many locations on the island No matter what kind of holiday you prefer, Rhodes caters for all tastes, from resting on the beach, shopping, exploring historical sights, watersports and vibrant nightlife.
The North of the island, including Rhodes town, Faliraki, Ixia, Trianda and surrounding areas, is well populated by locals and tourists, and offers a wide choice of activities and attractions for couples and families. The lower end of the East coast, South and West coast are considerably more rural, and offer a wealth of quiet coves alongside more traditional Greek villages. Because of the small size of the island, all aspects are within simple reach by car. Bus and taxi services are also easily accessible and, on the whole, reliable – even though the notorious ‘Greek time’ occasionally applies to the local bus services!
Lindos
Lindos Rhodes is a very favourite destination and only five minutes from Olive Grove Villa, and many visitors find themselves returning year after year. From the dear known ‘ooh-ah corner’ on your approach to Lindos, arguably one of the most breathtaking views in Greece can be seen.Under the imposing 2nd century BC acropolis lies a maze of narrow, vibrant streets surrounded by whitewashed, sugar cube houses with elegant doorways and intricately pebbled courtyards. The 4 beaches, all within easywalking distance of Lindos centre, are also diverse. A large, sandy, family friendly beach with Blue Flag position shelves gently into the crystal clear waters. Several beachside tavernas and WCs are found here, and pedaloes, motorboats and other watersports for the more adventurous are offered during summer. An excellent glass bottom boat trip departs from here, and is a must-do during your stay! Pallas beach is more intimate, and is the home of several excellent tavernas, some of whom will serve you from your sunbed, such as Skala on Pallas beach. For complete tranquility, head to St Pauls bay, a quaint unspoilt cove, usually peaceful enough to rest while listening to the soothing sounds of the sea. This area is also mythologic for snorkelling amongst the surrounding rocks. The shelved sandy beach close to St Pauls chapel offers spectacular views of the acropolis and St Pauls bay, and a small taverna offers drinks and snacks – and champagne for celebratory drinks after wedding ceremonies, which favourite at this location. All Rhodes beaches are kept very clean, and because of the sheer number available, none is usually overcrowded. One of the uncommon features of Lindos is that even though during the day the village thrives with visitors, the streets are completely pedestrianised, the only transport being the occasional moped or the traditional Lindos donkeys. Shops selling a wide range of cosmopolitan goods and gifts line the streets, along with a diverse range of tavernas and bars to suit each taste. One of the ideal ways to spend a lazy afternoon is with a cold frappe in Yiannis bar on the main street while people watching or listening to local chatter. The climb to the acropolis is arduous but worth it, for the views of Lindos, St Pauls bay and the neverending blue sea from the ancient castle walls are nothing short of spectacular. On the path towards the acropolis, Lindean ladies sell traditional, hand-embroidered tableware. If the achievement is too strenuous, take a donkey (Lindos taxi) to the castle walls. Within the ancient acropolis site is a relief of a ship, carved in 170 BC by the Lindeans. Walk through the Doric columns, up the “stairs to heaven” to the top level of the acropolis, where the part-renovated Temple of Athena stands, constructed during the 4th century AD. Directly below the acropolis, adjacent to the newly built town square, lies the ancient theatre. A good proportion of the seating area carved into the rock remains today. Also within the village are many chuches in different styles, often with intricate frescoes lining the walls. There are many ‘Captain’s houses’, built the 16th to 18th century, whose exquisite structure is one-of-a-kind to Greece. Many of these have been recently restored under the supervision of the Greek Archaeological Service, and several are now open to the public. Nightlife in Lindos is vibrant and friendly. The majority of visitors experiencing evening culture in Lindos are couples and families, and increasingly favourite wedding parties.Choose from romantic evenings dining on one of the many rooftop tavernas, or resting in one of the many welcoming. All bars are English speaking, and make you feel like a local on your first visit. Local kids often play in the streets in an evening, and kids are welcomed in restaurants and bars until late at night. There are several nightclubs in Lindos, playing Greek, European and British favourite diversion music. By law, no loud music can be played after 12pm, so the nightclubs are soundproofed. Nightclubs are simple to find in the evening, yet unimposing on the traditional streets of the village. At the top of the village, at ’ooh-ah corner’, an outdoor all-night diversion club, the Ampitheatre, can be found, with great views of the morning sunrise. Free taxis to this venue are acquirable from the town square. Getting to Rhodes could not be easier, the flight time is just three and a half to four hours from most UK regional airports.
The main airlines offering flights to Rhodes Diagoras Airport are Simple Jet, Monarch, Thomson Fly, Thomas Cook Airlines, Viking, Aegean and Olympic Aiways, Jet2 also fly to Rhodes but only from the North of England.
Most services offered are direct flights with the exception of Aegean Airlines and Olympic Airlines who only offer a direct service from London Heathrow to Athens and then aconnecting flight is required from Athens. The flight time to Athens is approximately three hours with the flight time between Athens and Rhodes being one hour.
During the season late May to end of October most airlines offer a direct service. Out of season you are restricted to the slightly longer journey between the two destinations.
The most favourite day for flights is a Wednesday even though flights are availble on a Saturday but more limited.
Easy Jet offer two flights on a Wednesday then a service on a Thursday Saturday and Sunday from London Gatwick. They have just added a sheduled service from Liverpool starting Might 2010.
Jet 2 only offer a service on a Wednesday from Newcastle Manchester and Leeds Bradford Airports.

Are you planning on travelling with family? There are certain tips that you should heed when you travel with your family, especially when if you are travelling with a baby or kids of very young ages. There are many places where you can travel in the UK as well as throughout the world that make travelling with family inexpensive and fun.
Here are a few useful tips for travelling with family:
1. Make sure that the resort or accommodations that you select are family friendly. This is one of the most important aspects when it comes to travelling with family members as there is a world of a difference between the facilities offered by business hotels and hotels catering to families. You want to be sure that the hotel or resort in which you stay is a place where you want to take small children. Check out the accommodations first before you make your plans to be sure that you are taking your family to a place that is appropriate for them. This is especially important when travelling outside of the UK.
2. Make sure there are plenty of family activities. The resort or hotel in which you stay should have amenities that appeal to families. Indoor pools and game rooms, for example, will help keep your kids entertained if you are travelling with them. Also check out the activities in the area as well and be certain that there are places nearby where you can take your children. Kids often get bored easily and do not enjoy the same things as adults. In order to truly enjoy your holiday, make certain that you can find activities that will make everyone happy.
3. Make sure that the resort or hotel has cots and other items you might need for babies and smaller children. This is very important if you are travelling with infants or babies. You will need to get a cot and also a place that will enable you to properly feed your baby. You should look for accommodations that offer amenities such as a small refrigerator in the room where you can keep bottles of milk and foods for babies so that they will not spoil.
4. Look for voucher codes that will give you the most for your money when travelling with family. You can find the ideal deals when you get voucher codes that you can easily obtain online. In many cases, kids can stay for free in some resorts. You can obtain voucher codes for travel in the UK as well as abroad when you use an online site that provides you with these codes that can save you money. Travelling with family can be costly, but you can cut your costs dramatically if you use voucher codes that give you an impressive discount.
5. Find the ideal accommodations that afford you privacy as well as accommodate your family. When you are travelling with family, it is important to have as much space and privacy so that everyone can enjoy their holiday. Look for accommodations that are spacious enough for everyone so that everyone in your family has a good time on their holiday.

Comparing Travel Insurance Policies Online

Categories: Travel Tips
You have decided that you are going to buy a travel insurance policy online for your next holiday. Congratulations! You have joined the league of smart travellers with your decision. Buying travel insurance is the ideal way for you to protect the monetary value as well as the time element you will invest on this holiday.
The time you spend online reading and comparing travel insurance policies in order to decide which one is right for you is truly time well spent. No two travel insurance policies are the same, and the type you select can vary, depending on what you are planning to do on your holiday.
Do you travel several times over the course of a year, on business as well as on holiday? You would want to look online for a multi-trip travel insurance policy. This type of insurance would protect you for 12 months, no matter how many trips you took. Multi-trip insurance will save you money compared to the cost of taking out a separate policy each time you travel. Perhaps you only travel once a year. In that case, a standard travel policy would serve you well.
Let’s state you are planning a wonderful skiing holiday. While you are comparing policies online, you’ll want to look at insurance companies that are healthy to offer coverage for expenses that are related to snow skiing. Just in case you have an happening on the slopes, you will want to make sure your travel insurance policy has medical coverage for skiers. A huge medical bill after taking a tumble could very well spoil your entire holiday! Of course, you also will want coverage in case something unforseen happens and your trip is cancelled or you crash into someone on the slopes and they decide to sue you. Hopefully, you will not have to make a claim for any of these reasons, but it will be a comfort knowing that you are protected.
When going on holiday with your family, it’s a good intent to plan ahead, and a good travel insurance policy can help you to do just that. What if your trip is disturbed because your flight was cancelled, and the next flight to your destination isn’t until the next day? You and your partner and kids will need to have a hotel room for the night as well as a taxi to reach that hotel. Select a travel insurance policy that will cover a reimbursement of the amount you had to spend for these items.
Once you have determined the type of travel insurance policy that would ideal suit your needs, it’s time to begin looking around online. On most travel insurance sites, you will simply fill out a form with some information such as how many people are travelling, their ages, the dates of travel, travel destination, and the length of your trip. This information is needed to give you an instant travel insurance quote on a policy.
Don’t make the mistake of allowing price to be your guide when doing your policy comparisons. Cheaper isn’t always better! You want insurance that will protect you and give you peace of mind, not a cheap policy that you have a world of trouble out of when attempting to file a claim.
Make sure to read the fine print in the Product Disclosure Statementfor any travel insurance policy you are thinking about purchasing. You need to comprehend exactly what is and what isn’t covered. Taking the time to read the details can make comparing travel insurance policies online much easier for you, and you won’t have any unpleasant surprises in case you do need to make a claim.
Travel Insuranz offers travel insurance you can rely on with secure online transaction and instant email certificate. So all you need do is rest and enjoy your trip. For more information or a free quote, visit Cheap Travel Insurance.

Top 5 Tips For Travel – Some Things to Consider
13 January 2012 by admin
Categories: Travel Tips
Before travelling to any part of the world you must always do your research. By doing so, you will be ready for whatever situation might come your way. Below are some of the top five tips for travel that I use on a regular basis.
Tip #1: Travel Insurance – Tips For Travel
Find out if your insurance company will cover you while you are overseas. In the event of an emergency, cost is not your first concern. It is however, a third or fourth concern. Having this expense seems unnecessary, but as the saying goes, “it’s superior to be innocuous than sorry”. Healthcare in some parts of the world can be very expensive, and this is not something you really want to be thinking about if you are in some kind of emergency.
You should also make sure you have the address and phone number of your countries embassy. In an emergency you want to have this information readily available. Definitely one of the most essential tips for travel I can think of.
Tip #2: Choosing Your Airfare – Tips For Travel
Shop around for cheap airfares. One great resource I use is Expedia.com for comparisons of airfare deals. Once you’ve found the ideal option, go and check that airline’s website. Usually the fare will be even cheaper especially if you have a promo code.
Tip #3 – Accommodation – Tips For Travel
Check your accommodation rates over and over again, don’t go for the first option that is acquirable and do your research at least two to three months in advance.
One great option to think about is timeshare rentals. If you are planning a week-long vacation, renting timeshare can save you hundreds on the cost of accommodation.
Tip #4: Spending Your Money the Smart Way – Tips For Travel
Take twice the money you originally think you’ll need. Use ATM machines whenever doable and refrain carrying money in your wallet. Keep in your shoe. In an emergency, can get you a ride, meal, and a phone call. I have heard stories about people being robbed and having to beg their way back to their hotel. Even harder when you have no ID on you, so always carry some spare cash.
Buy your food in a shop and don’t take in restaurants all the time.
You should also notify your credit card companies when traveling for long periods of time. The last thing you want to happen is to have your cards cancelled by your credit card company because they believed the card had been stolen.
Tip #5: Getting Around – Tips For Travel
Avoid public transport when and if possible. It’s slow and inefficient. There are rare exceptions of course, but overall it’s not the most effective way to use the limited time you might have.
Overall just go with the flow. Traveling, especially aboard is one of the ideal experiences you will ever have. You’ll meet tons of other people who just want to see the world and have a good time doing it just like you!
Happy travels!

Tutankhamen & Treasures of the Pharaohs Visit London
For the first time in 30 years the treasures of ancient king Tutankhamen have left Egypt to go on a mini-world tour and are currently on display in London – the only European city to host the exhibition – until the end of August 2008.
The marvellous exhibition features nearly 130 artefacts from the tomb of King Tutankhamen and other Pharaohs that were interred nearly 3,500 years ago in the unreal Valley of the Kings. On display are some astounding items from the boy king’s tomb such as the royal diadem – the royal crown that Tutankhamen wore while he was alive – and one of the jewel encrusted golden coffinettes that contained the mummified king’s internal organs.
However, the item most closely associated with King Tutankhamen, the magnificent golden death mask will be not travelling with the exhibition as it is prevented by Egyptian law from leaving its homeland. There is not a copy of the mask on display as all the items are trusty artefacts, but one of the display items, the canopic coffinette features artwork very similar to the mask. However, anyone wishing to view the death mask will have to travel to port and visit the Egyptian Museum, from where this exhibition’s artefacts have been loaned.
King Tut reigned over the Egyptians for a period of nine years, approximately 3,300 years ago. He ascended to the throne as a child and suffered a premature death in his teenage years, the cause of which has been subject to much speculation since his tomb was discovered by British archaeologist Howard Carter in 1922. Even though King Tut’s reign was unremarkable it was the discovery of his undisturbed tomb and all the treasures contained within that has guaranteed his immortality. Soon after the discovery certain events happened that led many within Egypt to proclaim that disturbing the tomb had unleashed an ancient curse. It was stated that all involved would meet horrible deaths, lending a degree of intrigue to the discovery story, but the ‘curse’ has long been discounted.
Visitors should grant at least an hour to 90 minutes to see everything on display, even though they are free to stay for as long as they like. However, don’t bother taking a camera inside the exhibition because photography of the artefacts is not allowed, so anyone wanting photographic memories should purchase a guidebook.
Although the treasures of Tutankhamen have been taking a series of short breaks throughout the world they will return to their homeland of Egypt, after visiting metropolis in 2009. The exhibition opened at the O2 in London on November 15th and runs until 30 August 2008.

Lower Cost- More Travel Time
9 January 2012 by admin
Categories: Travel Tips
One of the biggest misconceptions about travelling is that shorter trips cost less than the longer ones. The reality shows that a month-long journey is not only cheaper than 4 one-week vacations. It can also cost about the same as one-week vacation. Likewise, taking a year off to travel can easily be at a superior value plus a more memorable experience than a decade of hurried, two-week vacations.
The secret here is not merely a matter of budgeting- it is a matter of mindset. Here are strategies, on how to adopt a mindset that can make a long-term journey affordable:
1) Do not purchase your travel specifics in advance. As wonderful as that African Safari looks in the promotional literature of a travel company, searching for the same experience when you arrive in Africa will be much less costly – and you’ll save yourself the trouble of adhering to a fixed date. The same goes for air travel. A discounted “round-the-world” flight ticket might very well seem tempting but it’s generally superior to purchase a one-way ticket to your first destination and plan your ongoing transportation as you go. Not only is it cheaper this way, it grants you a more organic experience – since you’ll have a much superior feel for your journey.
As a general rule, remember that pre-packaged adventures and prior arrangements – even those touted under the phrase “budget travel” – are for people who can only spare a few days away from home.
Long-term travel is all about setting your own pace and finding your own way – and you can rest assured that everything you see in a glossy brochure in Milwaukee will be just as acquirable when you arrive independently at your destination.
2) Go slow
One of the advantages of long-term travel is that it grants you to see and experience things at your own pace. This will finally save you money, since a slower travel tempo superior integrates you into the local economy, and grants you to wander around and find your own adventures.
Hence, when planning, don’t aspire to “do” Central USA in six weeks; you’ll have a much more vivid (and economical) experience if you limit yourself to a country or two. Similarly, don’t plan to “do” Asia in six months; instead, aim to see a part of it, like the Northeast, or India. And – even if you have a year to play with – trying to cram five continents into a single travel is a sure path to exhaustion. Long-term travel shouldn’t be approached like bulk shopping: The value of your travels does not rely on the number of stamps you have got in your passport when you get home – and the slow experience of a single country is always superior (and more affordable) than the hurried, superficial experience of 10 countries.
3) Trying out the local hotels
A great way to save money and have an enhanced travel experience is to sidestep international hotels and tour companies. Instead of luxury chain hotels, seek out clean basic, hostels and local guesthouses. Instead of flying from place to place, take local buses, trains, and shared taxis. Instead of dining at fancy restaurants, take food from street vendors and local cafeterias. Within the local economy, one can take a train from one end of China to the other for what it costs to gas up an SUV back home. For the price of a home-delivered pepperoni pizza, one can take great meals for a week in Thailand. For a month’s rent in any major American city, one can spend a year in a beach hut in Nicaragua. Moreover, even the industrialized parts of the world host enough hostel networks and camping opportunities to make long-term travel affordable.
This principle also applies to day-to-day life on the road. Shop for food in local farmers’ markets instead of continually seeking out processed supermarket food and restaurant meals (you’ll end up healthier for the experience). Moreover, shopping and sleeping in local economies will help you comprehend how local residents live.
In the event of demand of money for important travelling needs, you can always count on the world wide web to guide your wy out of the mess. Why not try out Paydaybank website to resolve your financial travelling needs? Payday Bank and My Payday are a reliable short term loan organization based in the United Kingdom and offer you inexpensive loan rates with no credit history check whatsoever.
